African Inspired Drumming
Immerse yourself in an exciting 5 days of African inspired Drumming with Chinta Reiss.
Connect with the ancient language of rhythm and share in the strength, harmony and universal power of the drum.
Within this course you will learn and explore the rhythms from the vast continent of Africa from West to East. We will delve into African culture and its relationship to the rhythms and songs. You’ll learn drum technique, body percussion and the art of improvisation. We will be exploring the traditional poly rhythms of Djembe, Bougarabou, DunDuns and the various percussion instruments that make up the ensemble, such as cow bells and Shekere etc.
From beginner to advanced, you will be supported throughout this 5 day journey and come away feeling exhilarated and confident. During the course, you will work on your drumming technique for the drums you are using, as well as body percussion, and for the more advanced students, the art of improvisation. You will also learn the songs and chants that accompany the rhythms, along with their cultural significance.
